HP compaq laptop keyboard
The HP Compaq 488590-001 Keyboard allows the user to configure certain buttons, such as the Internet button, to open a specific webpage or computer program when pressed. Different buttons have different settings and you can quickly configure these buttons to open only the programs you actually use. Taking a few minutes to configure your keyboard’s buttons provides shortcuts to make work or web browsing faster and more productive.
Things You’ll Need: HP Compaq Business Notebook 6710B Keyboard/mouse driver update
1. Click the “Start” button and choose “Control Panel.” The Control Panel may take a few seconds to load on your screen. Once it appears, click “Keyboard.” If you do not see “Keyboard,” click “Printers and Other Hardware” and then click “Keyboard.”
2. Click the “Buttons” tab at the top of the “Keyboard Properties” box that appears on your screen automatically. Find the button you want to change under the “Configure a keyboard button” heading. Only certain buttons on the HP keyboard, such as the “Internet” button, can be configured. If you do not see a button on the list, it cannot be changed.
Ground yourself by touching a large metal object such as a piece of furniture or lamp. This will dissipate any static electricity built up in your body, which is damaging to laptops.
Remove the hard drive cover and the memory module cover screws on the underside of the laptop with a screwdriver.
Remove the HP Pavilion DV7 Keyboard screws located in the memory and hard drive compartments. These are located along the sides and there should be (depending on your model) four in total.
Turn the laptop back over. Carefully lift the keyboard up by the back and away from the case. Don’t pull it out too far, because it is still connected by cables to the motherboard. Flip the Compaq Presario 2500 Keyboard upside down and lay it on the palmrest.
Unplug the two ribbon cables connecting the HP 496121-001 Keyboard to the motherboard. One or more of these cables may be held in by retaining pins, which need to be pulled back before you can pull out the cord. Set the keyboard aside.
Lay the new HP Compaq Business 6910P Keyboard face down on the palm pad. Plug in the ribbon cables, ensuring that the retention pins are closed.
